Don’t get sentimental

This painting began as something else.

It was created over an earlier work I didn’t love, but couldn’t abandon—because of what it might become. That attachment to future potential became the subject of the piece itself.

In response, I covered the canvas in black and wrote “be free” and “don’t get sentimental” across its surface. The scribbles are intentional and unresolved, a refusal to polish or overthink. The earlier painting still shows through at the edges, a quiet reminder of what was let go.

This work is about choosing presence over perfection, and freedom over attachment.
